Why it matters
Nearly every customer channel and operating process depends on the core. Conversion risk, integration limits, contract terms, and processing outages can affect the whole institution for years.

Questions to ask
- Which functions are native to the core, and which require a separately contracted product or third party?
- How are real-time interfaces documented, tested, versioned, and priced?
- What service levels apply to posting, end-of-day processing, and disaster recovery, and what remedies follow a miss?
- What data, conversion assistance, and continuing access will the bank receive when the contract ends?
